Giving Is a Lifestyle

Giving is a wonderful lifestyle that makes us more like Jesus. God is a giver, always saying, “Here, let me give you more…” More love, more grace, more inheritance, more of His Spirit. We cannot outgive Him. It’s in giving we imitate the grace of Jesus, who gave first to us, laying down His life that we might become like Him.

Jesus said in Luke 6:38, “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

God desires to pour out generous blessings upon us, but to receive His best we must learn to be generous ourselves. Giving is your opportunity to say, “Father, thank You for Jesus, for my salvation, for my home in heaven, for all the blessings of this life, for my family, for this earth, for beautiful sunsets, quiet lakes, and hidden retreats, for my life, and for the abilities you have given me.” As we give the first fruits of our income to Him, He blesses us with such wisdom in handling the remainder that we are better off for having given to Him first.

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Malachi 3:10

Bring the whole tithe to the storehouses, that there may be food in my house. ‘Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.‘”

Giving is more than finances. God seeks you to share your love, time, knowledge, encouragement, and smiles. When we are generous with God and others, we are sowing wonderful seeds that will spring up in more blessing. When we give cheerfully from the heart, our partnership with God allows Him to open the doors (that only He can open) that will prosper every area of our lives.

When we adopt the lifestyle of giving from the heart, we are not “giving to get,” we are living to give, even as Christ.
